That was never a discount from the 1802 form. It is true that many insurance companies do give lower rates for block house vs frame, that should not change.

Do the form changes mean that information no longer collected will not be subject to premium discounts?
For example: Assume a reinforced masonry homes was is subject to a $500 discount compared to a similar wood frame home. Does that discount go away?

THE FRONT METAL PATIO ROOF CAN NOT BE INCLUDED IF IT IS NOT STRUCTURALLY ATTACHED BUT THE RED LINES ARE ON SIDES WHERE THE TRUSS OR RATER TAILS MEET THE TOP OF THE WALL HT. SHOULDN'T THE RED LINES BE ALONG THE GABLE FACE!

Ann

The roof is measured at the drip edge following the perimeter, so you may be entitled to a discount. Bracing a gable is almost always a good idea for protection but does not lead to lower insurance rates directly.

Because of the new form, I believe I will now qualify for the hip roof designation, as long as perimeter really means perimeter, as in the hip roof going in a "U" shape around a center courtyard pool, with only two decorative gables on smaller front end of house (which lost me the hip designation in the past). Am I thinking of this perimeter term correctly?

Also, on my two small front decorative gables, there is no gable bracing (one gable is actually quite small). The new code does not deal with this issue, correct? I could have these braced for about $350.
Is this money well spent for wind protection reasons? for insurance deduction reasons?

Thanks for a site that normal people can use to actually figure out what is going on.

Cant really determine by the photos but if the front roof is flat (<2:12 pitch) the forward or leading edge is also considered non-hip and the result is "OTHER" on the new form. (37 feet of non-hip divided by 166 equals 22.3%) If it is 2:12 or greater then your assumptions are correct.

The nailing is based on industry standards. Some configurations have been tested but others have not. I hope that helps
